I would also like to thank wholeheartedly my uncle, Abdurahman Banoonah, Ameen Banoonah and Professor Hashim Hariri who provided support throughout my life in the UK.

My deepest thanks to my four children Jawharah, Abdul Aziz, Laura and Rashid for their love, unflinching patience and understanding during my studies.

Finally, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Dr. Adam Moroz, without his constructive advice and encouragement this PhD would not have been possible. A heartfelt thanks for Dr. Emily Baines whose guidance, advice, time and inspiration were invaluable throughout the study. Moreover, special thanks for the support of Professor Bilal Makled who gave much of his valuable expertise and experience in the study area and facilitated the practical work.
